Measures
At Oakhill we are Official Joint Measurement Board Measurers. An official certificate is often required at certain competitions and when breeding.
Horses can be measured at any time of year but not until they are 4 years old. A horse is classed as a 1 year old on the 1st of January the year following their birth, regardless of when the horse was born during that year.
There are two types of height certificate, an annual certificate and a full or life certificate. Every animal regardless of its age has to have at least one annual certificate before it can have a full certificate.
Annual certificates are available for horses aged four, five, or six years of age or any seven year old or older that is presented for it’s first measurement. The certificate expires on the 31st of December, and animals can not be measured whilst they hold a valid certificate, unless there is a dispute regarding the current measurement.
The Official Measurer for second or third Annual Certificates must be different from the Official Measurer who did the last measurement but can be from the same practice. The Official Measurer for a Full Certificate must be from a different practice from that to which the Official Measurer who performed the last Annual Measurement belonged.
This all may sound very complicated but all you have to do is contact us on 01772 861300 and we can do the rest.
