Digital X-Ray
Equine radiography has, in the recent years become much more advanced. Long gone are the days of manual development that involved hanging films up to dry. Oakhill has a large animal digital X-ray machine which processes the image onto a computer. The images can then be altered on the computer e.g. image contrast and we can zoom in on even the smallest areas of concern. They are stored on the computer and can be uploaded onto a CD or e-mailed very easily. This allows owners and farriers to view images off their own computer.
X-rays help us to visualise bone.
Examples of where they are of use are listed below:
- Orthopaedics (lameness investigations) involving limbs and sometimes the back or neck.
- Dental and sinus problems, including sinus infections, cysts, tumours and tooth root infections.
- Suspected fractures of limbs, jaw, head.
- Bony infections, for example after a deep wound.
- Foot penetrations with metallic objects e.g. nails.
